Collection: Kočevje forest honey - protected designation of origin
Kočevska, a unique karst landscape in the southeast of Slovenia, opens up and gives its beauty to all who want to explore it. It has long been closed and unknown, but now it is precisely its untouched nature that is invaluable.
The Kočevje forested landscape is one of the best preserved natural areas in Europe. Kočevska, together with the Kolpa Valley, is defined as a protected area under Natura 2000.
Bee grazing is distinctly forested, as the central part, about 800 square kilometers, is 95% overgrown with forest trees.
The honey produced in this area is distinctly forest. The most common honey pastures in the Kočevje region are: maple, spruce, walking and linden.
Due to long winters, the honey harvesting season in the Kočevje region is shorter, only five to six months.
